Sonic P-06

Sonic P-06 Project 06 featuring Sonic Shadow and Silver

Sonic P-06 (Project 06) is a ground-up reconstruction of Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 built in Unity by solo developer ChaosX. What was once the most infamous disaster in Sonic history has been transformed into what many consider one of the best 3D Sonic games ever made. All three campaigns — Sonic, Shadow, and Silver — are fully playable with 9 characters, rebuilt controls, reworked physics, and visuals that surpass official Sonic titles.

From Broken Disaster to Fan-Made Masterpiece

Sonic 2006 shipped with broken controls, constant loading screens, and game-crashing bugs. But beneath the mess was genuinely ambitious level design — massive, interconnected stages that hinted at a Sonic Adventure 3 that never was. ChaosX saw that potential and spent half a decade rebuilding every single element from scratch in Unity. The result speaks for itself. Textures have been upscaled, character models refined, and the lighting overhaul gives every stage a polished look that genuinely rivals official Sonic Team releases — built in Unity by a single developer. Animations flow naturally between states: running transitions smoothly into jumping, which chains into homing attacks without a single jarring frame. Some levels even feature cinematic intros where the camera sweeps through the environment before handing control to the player.
The camera — one of the original's worst offenders — has been completely reworked. It follows the action smoothly even during high-speed mach sections and tight platforming, which alone transforms how the game feels. Combined with rebuilt physics that give Sonic proper momentum on slopes and perfect air control during mach speed sections, P-06 achieves a flow state that few 3D Sonic games can match.

Three Campaigns, Nine Characters

Every campaign in P-06 has been rebuilt to stand on its own. In the original, only Sonic's story was somewhat tolerable. Here, all three hedgehogs offer distinct, polished experiences, and their side characters are often the highlight.

Sonic's Campaign

The most balanced experience — a blend of platforming, speed setpieces, and exploration that evolves the Sonic Adventure formula. Sonic has homing attack, spin dash, slide kick, bounce bracelet, and an anti-gravity kick. The momentum system rewards smart play: you gain speed downhill, and the spin dash works beautifully on slopes. The mach speed sections deserve special attention. In the original, they were infamous for zero air control and instant deaths. P-06 gives you full aerial control, turning these sequences into some of the game's best moments — blasting across Wave Ocean's beaches or through Kingdom Valley at Unleashed-level speeds. Tails provides aerial bombing runs that break up the pacing nicely, while Knuckles handles far better than his original version with proper weight and speed during gliding sections.

Shadow's Campaign

Focused on combat and exploration rather than pure speed. Shadow's Chaos Spear stuns enemies from range and now grants height like a homing attack, enabling aerial combos. Fill the Chaos meter through combat to unlock Chaos Boost — a powered-up state that chains into Chaos Blast at level 3. The combat loop is genuinely addictive: homing attack into Chaos Spear into Chaos Boost creates a rhythm that no other Sonic character has ever had. Rouge brings emerald-hunting sections reminiscent of Sonic Adventure — used as a gimmick within larger levels rather than standalone gameplay. Omega is a fan favorite: a walking arsenal with spammable attacks, lock-on targeting, a chain gun with ammo, and even a first-person shooter mode for precision ranged combat. The Silver Update gave him the 1-2-3 combo from Sonic Heroes, fixing his melee completely. Most optional vehicle sections from Shadow's original story have been removed entirely. The mandatory ones are short and vastly improved.

Silver's Campaign

The slowest campaign, built around psychokinesis — grabbing objects and stunned enemies to hurl at targets. P-06 adds a crucial improvement: a ranged psychic projectile that paralyzes enemies from a distance, eliminating the tedious close-range combat of the original. After running for a while, Silver enters a faster levitation mode that fixes his biggest speed problem. He can also glide with the jump button and perform aerial dashes. The real stars here are the side characters. Blaze is widely considered the best secondary character in the entire game — fast as Sonic with a fire spin, rapid homing attack, and a new fire slam move. She has a high skill ceiling that rewards aggressive play but punishes button-mashing. Amy Rose, completely redesigned from her Sonic Adventure roots, wields a massive hammer with shockwave attacks, a hammer flip for maintaining momentum, and a devastating ground spin. She only appears in one level, but her moveset is so well-crafted it could carry an entire game.

Levels That Feel Like Real Places

P-06's stages stand out because they feel like actual locations rather than obstacle courses. Each level is wide and layered — there is a main path forward, but exploring in any direction rewards you with item boxes, hidden enemies, and alternate routes. Every playable character opens different pathways through the same stages, giving each level massive replay value across all three campaigns. Kingdom Valley is the crown jewel — ancient ruins surrounded by cliffs, waterfalls, and lush valleys that look absolutely stunning with P-06's upgraded lighting. Wave Ocean features massive beaches where Sonic's mach speed section shows the true scale of the environment. Crisis City puts you in a burning metropolis where Shadow now runs through collapsing buildings on foot instead of being forced into a clunky vehicle. White Acropolis has an open section where you progress however you choose, with the forced vehicle segment from the original completely removed. The level design combined with the character variety means you can replay each stage multiple times and have a genuinely different experience. Knuckles reaches areas Sonic cannot. Omega clears entire rooms from a distance. Blaze blazes through sections at speeds that rival Sonic himself.
