The Rush Trilogy, Reimagined for PC

Sonic Rush Rerun goes beyond a simple remake. Instead of recreating the DS original level-for-level, Team Rerun redesigned every stage from scratch to work on a single widescreen display — solving the fundamental challenge of adapting a dual-screen game for PC. The result feels familiar yet fresh, with level layouts that blend elements from Rush, Rush Adventure, and Colors DS into something new.
The low-poly 2.5D art style gives the game a distinctive look that translates surprisingly well to HD screens. Character models are expressive with smooth, almost elastic animations — Sonic's running cycle and Blaze's flame effects have been particularly praised by the community. Add native 144hz+ support on top of that, and the gameplay feels remarkably fluid on modern monitors. The menus deserve a mention too: every screen features animated character renders and stylized transitions that set the tone before you even start a level.

Sonic & Blaze — Two Distinct Playstyles

Both characters play through the same stages but offer genuinely different approaches to each level:

Sonic

The speed specialist. Sonic's Boost is faster than Blaze's, making him ideal for ground-level speedruns. He has access to Homing Attack (RB) with a visual reticle, Stomp from Colors DS, and Air Boost for mid-air dashes. Tails tags along as a companion during gameplay. His strength lies in chaining boosts through the lower, faster routes.

Blaze

The aerial specialist. Blaze's Boost is slower but described as "more lethal" with pure flame effects. Her Hover ability gives her superior air control, opening up vertical routes that Sonic can't reach as easily. She features a new voice actress and unique trick animations. Best suited for players who prefer precise platforming over raw speed.

Mechanics Pulled From the Best Sonic Games

What makes Sonic Rush Rerun stand out among Rush fan projects is how it cherry-picks mechanics from across the handheld Sonic library:
