Linux

Android
Download the APK from the official Android page. Transfer the ROM file to your device via USB or cloud storage, then select it when the game prompts you on first launch. Loading times may be longer on low-end devices.
The Remaster Sonic 3 Deserved
Sonic 3 & Knuckles is one of the most ambitious platformers ever made for the Sega Genesis. But for years, legal complications surrounding its soundtrack — tied to contributions from Michael Jackson's team — made it nearly impossible for Sega to re-release or remaster the game. While Sonic 1 and 2 got brilliant mobile remasters by Taxman and Stealth using the Retro Engine, Sonic 3 was left behind. The fan community refused to let the game fade away. First came Sonic 3 Complete (2009-2013), a ROM hack that fixed sprite issues, added customization options, and worked on original hardware. Then in 2019, Eukaryot released the first full version of Sonic 3 A.I.R., taking the concept much further with a custom engine built from the ground up. The result is what many fans call the definitive way to experience Sonic 3 & Knuckles — a sentiment echoed across the community for over six years of continuous updates. What Sonic 3 A.I.R. Adds to the Original
A.I.R. is not just a simple port — it's a comprehensive enhancement that modernizes every aspect of the original game while keeping its soul intact. Here are the highlights:Widescreen & HD
True 16:9 widescreen with extended play area — not stretched like emulators. HD rendering at 60fps with optional background blur, smooth sprite rotation, and retro scanline filters.
Remastered Audio
Optional remastered soundtrack downloadable from the in-game menu. Choose between prototype, PC Collection, or Origins versions for controversial tracks like Carnival Night and Ice Cap.
Total Customization
Choose Sonic's ability (Insta-Shield or Super Peel Out), enable Drop Dash from Mania, pick alternate level layouts, toggle Sandopolis ghosts, adjust Super/Hyper themes, and much more.
All 14 Zones from Sonic 3 & Knuckles
A.I.R. includes every zone from both Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, played as one continuous adventure the way it was originally intended. Each zone features unique mechanics, multiple paths depending on your character, and boss encounters: Sonic 3 zones: Angel Island, Hydrocity, Marble Garden, Carnival Night, Ice Cap, and Launch Base (with Big Arm re-enabled as Sonic 3's true final boss). Sonic & Knuckles zones: Mushroom Hill, Flying Battery, Sandopolis, Lava Reef, Hidden Palace, Sky Sanctuary, Death Egg, and The Doomsday Zone. All three characters — Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles — play through different paths with their unique abilities. Knuckles has entirely different boss fights and route options. And for the first time, you can play as the Knuckles & Tails team, a combination that was never available in the original game.Sonic 3 A.I.R. Mods
